Committee News

Dear Members                                                                            September 2023

Now that the summer holidays are over, we thought we would remind you what is happening at the Club for the remainder of 2023.

We are having a Work Day on Saturday 23rd September. Although all the Committee work very hard, with so much outside space, as well as maintaining the Club itself, we need members to come along to help with hedge trimming, marking out the car park and loads of other jobs. Please come along if you possibly can – we will be grateful for your help.

Chris is still putting on his 60s Tribute bands once a month and these are still very popular – coming up we have a Stevie Wonder tribute, Neil Diamond tribute and Abba Chique. Book early to avoid disappointment.

On 14th October The Spitfires Football Club have their Quiz night – it is a really fun evening and the prizes are great.

We have a Charity Night on Saturday 21st October with The Breeze. This is run jointly with The Harley Davidson Riders Club and this year we are supporting the Tiny Toes charity for the Special Care Baby Unit at the QEQM Hospital. Entry is free but collection boxes will be passed around during the evening and we will hold a bumper raffle. All donations for the raffle will be very welcome.

We have our members night on 18th November with Trilogy, a very popular local band.  This is free for members, £5 for non-members and a finger buffet is included.

The Karaoke proved so popular last New Year’s Eve that we will be doing the same this year.

We hope you will come and give your support to these events and also enjoy a great night out.

We have decided to hold a Christmas Fayre this year on November 25th.   Please contact Ginny (07738002272) if you would like to book a table and obviously any donations or offers of help would be gratefully received. Tables are £10 each.

As we did in 2022, we will be donating the proceeds of the raffles on the Tribute Nights to The Pilgrims Hospice. Alan and Lynda also kindly donate the profits from their Christmas Raffle and Cordell donates the profits from her cake stall at her Tea Dances. This should hopefully enable us to make another generous donation this year.

We will also be collecting for the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter this Christmas.  As well as items for the food bank, they also need donations of warm clothing in good condition and Christmas Presents for children of all ages. We had a great response last year and they were so incredibly grateful. Hopefully you will all be able to help with our efforts this year.

2024 is going to be another busy year with a full programme of events and bookings coming in all the time. We are planning some more improvements and maintenance work in the coming twelve months and any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Dear Members                                                                            May 2023

This is just a quick update to remind you what is happening at the Club this year.

On 28th May we are having a Workday – we need to do some weeding and hedge cutting, mark out the lines in the car park and have a huge bonfire. Please come along and help if you can – the weather forecast is good, and we will keep you supplied with refreshments.  We have a large outside space and we need lots of willing helpers to maintain it.

Everyone who came along really enjoyed the members night with Jason Leigh – he gives a fantastic performance every time and it was a pity that so few members chose to come and join us.

The Charity Night with Glamtastic was also a great night – numbers were down a little because of the Coronation but we still managed to raise over £480 for the Harmony Therapy Trust for which they are very grateful and a huge thank you to all those who did come along and so generously donated raffle prizes.

Don’t forget we have another Charity Night in October and another Members Night in November, and we hope you will be able to join us on both nights.

The Club is here for you to use and enjoy so please support us in every way you can.

Don’t forget to contact Ginny if you want a stall at the Christmas Fayre.

Hope to see you all on the 28th.
